ELISA CALDAROLA (Università di Padova): When The Museum Is The Artwork

I argue that some museum venues are meant to be appreciated as site-specific works of installation art. To defend this view, I analyze in detail one case-study and consider issues concerning: the structure of installation art and site-specific art, the structure of museum venues, the conditions for producing museum venues that are works of art, the relation between appreciating a museum venue qua museum venue and appreciating it qua work of installation art.

ELISA CALDAROLA is S.T.A.R.S. Starting Grant Fellow at the University
of Padova. Her current research project concerns the metaphysics of
art installation. Her published work focuses on abstract painting,
caricature, conceptual art and the meta-ontology of art, as well as on
Ernst Gombrich's and Ludwig Wittgenstein's views on depiction. She has
been Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland,
Visiting Scholar at the University of Santiago de Compostela and
Visiting Research Student at The Queen's College, Oxford.
