 "I know that I know nothing": Prejudice, intellectual humility, and the illusion of explanatory depth

Abstract. People are prejudiced towards members of groups with a worldview they perceive to be dissimilar from their own. The relationship between perceived dissimilarity and prejudice is so stable that it has been referred to as a psychological law. In this talk, I shall bring together ideas and methods from existing literatures on intellectual humility and on the illusion of explanatory depth, and I shall discuss how people's level of intellectual humility and illusions of explanatory depth impact the relationship between dissimilarity and prejudice.
